Covid-19 dogs arrive at the airport – able to identify the virus earlier than laboratory tests

Highly trained and almost infallible, the dogs at Vantaa airport are able to identify the Covid-19 virus with an error rate of 0%. They are also able to track down the virus even before symptoms appear, something in which even laboratory tests fail.
In addition, the incredible nose of these dogs allows them to be able to trace the virus from a much smaller sample than laboratory tests: in fact, they only need 10-100 molecules against the 18,000,000 needed for tests.

Persolaise: A Personal History and Journey in Fragrance

It must have been during confinement that I first came across perfume critic, author, blogger and vlogger Persolaise, alias Dariush Alavi. I watched a few of his interviews with perfumers on his YouTube channel, and then, intrigued and hungry for more, I started to listen to his fragrance reviews on his “Love at First Scent” series. I was immediately struck by his ability to describe fragrance with such a rich vocabulary and inventive analogies, so that those of us not experiencing the scent at the time would take note, and possibly be curious enough to go in search of said scents. I recently caught up with Persolaise to talk about his career, his industry observations and ultimately to challenge him to some of the questions he asks in his own interviews.

Why we think skin-care products that smell the worst must work the best

There are a number of cultural, social and demographic factors that lead us to tolerate or even appreciate unpleasant odors in our beauty products and to consider them more effective than others with a neutral or pleasant smell. In fact, these products are often assimilated to medicines, something that therefore does us good but often has a not very tasty taste (just think of the countless medicines with a rather bitter taste). Some bad smells can then be linked to particular situations or positive memories for each of us and therefore be more than appreciated. Finally, since "those who want to look a little must suffer" it is common practice to make efforts or sacrifices (and therefore also endure a bad smell) in order to enjoy the beneficial effects of these cosmetics.

Is your skin lacking moisture, or hydration? Yes, there's a difference

If a product is moisturizing it means that an ingredient is a humectant, while “moisturizer” means that an ingredient is occlusive. If your skin is dry, it means that it is low in oil and therefore needs to be treated with a moisturizer; if it is dehydrated, and therefore low in water, it needs a moisturizer.
